We are a family of four!
Just the Four of Us. 2010-09-17 23:54:28.0
Wow what a day!  We were one of three families left, whose babies had not come yet.  Then an older VW jetta pulled up and we knew it was our turn, Sol had just steped out to use the restroom, so I sent someone running to the bathroom to get him poised with the video camera.  Aftan was brought to the civil affairs office with an enourage and his foster mother stood him on his two feet in front of us, he looked around in shock then I picked him up and he began to scream and scream and scream.  He pushed me away and was even more terrified of Sol, I am not sure he even noticed Sun.  The foster family and orphanage workers started pulling out snacks for him (he has been well fed) to try to calm him down, in the meantime we are shoving toys in his face thinking something will calm him down.  Nothing calmed him down, except the few times his foster mother picked him up to comfort him and when someone handed us a bottle.  Mostly he screamed the entire time we were in the office.  The orphanage workers told us he is a strong willed, strong tempered little boy (we looked at each other and thought "that sounds like someone else we know").  By the time we got on the bus Aftan calmed down and began to look around.  Sun started making funny faces at him and we saw our first smile.  He seemed to relax when we got back to the room and was playing with us, throwing stacking cups and putting things in his mouth.  When we left to eat lunch he wanted to grab everything, I am way out of practice eating with a baby on my lap and ended up with as much food on me as in me.  Aftan loved noodles and kept asking for more, Sun enjoyed helping him eat.  Now he is sleeping and we are resting for a little while before Sol has to go down and do some paperwork.

Aftan came in with four people, his foster mother and possibly her daughter or someone who works with her, a driver and an orphanage director.  They had a bag bigger than ours filled with food, clothes and a photo album of Aftan from the time he was an infant until this month, the photos also have notes with them that we will need to have translated.  They also left their phone number and an email address.  Apparetnly he has been in their care since he was about a week old, he left for about a month to go to Shangahi and went back to his foster family until we came.  There are 12 children in his foster home and I didn't learn how many care takers, but it was obvious that everyone who delivered him to us knew him and cared for him.  Hopefully when we get his photo album translated maybe we will learn more.

We are all exhausted after our challenging day.  I was expecting a screamer because Sun was also a screamer but you can never prepare for the grief a little one experiences on that hand over day.  Our little guy was born in the year of the Ox and he is a Tarus which makes him a double bull, he might give Sun a run for her money.

Today is the day we meet Aftan.  Our room is buzzing with anticipation and nerves, Sun and I had some special snuggle time this morning.  We put together the gifts we need to take to the orphanage staff today, we have been baby proofing our hotel room because apparently our Son likes to put things in his mouth, Sol checked his fantasy footbal scores and now I think we are going to go down and eat some breakfast.  The bus comes at 9:30 am to take us to the civil affairs office to get this party started.  I came home from the bank and wal mart to a crib in our room, which makes all this more real.  Many in our group have started having teary moments, including me.
