Earthquake in China · May 12, 2008
Tragedy strikes China 2008-05-12 14:03:13.0

I was so shocked when I read the internet headlines this morning.  The earthquake that hit Chengdu was massive and so many lives have been lost.  Please pray for these people-I simply cannot imagine this-the schools and hospital collapsing.  Jenna is from Chongqing Municipality and was in Liangping County.  We know for sure that one school collapsed in Liangping and the students were kept inside because the teachers thought it would be safer and right now they have 5 confirmed deaths from there.  We know nothing of Jenna's orphanage yet but I would think by tomorrow we will.  Chongqing and Chengdu are neighbors (side by side) so I'm worried about Jenna's orphanage.  And I thank God that she is with us-safe!

UPDATE:  May 13, 2008

Jenna's orphanage only sustained minor damage and all of the babies/children/caregivers are okay-Thank you Jesus!  But as the day unfolds and China moves into their night we are seeing the number of deaths climb-this is such a tragedy.  It is heart-breaking and gut-wrenching to read the stories of so many schools collapsing with so many, many children inside.  I ask for your prayers for the parents of these children-their lives have forever been altered and they will have to rebuild their lives, their homes and all without their children.  It is overwhelming to think about and I simply cannot imagine.  I have heard before that the Chinese do not show emotion like we do nor do they feel about their children the way we do, but I disagree.  I saw with my own eyes the love these people had for their children and at the end of the day, when children are ripped from our lives, we are the same.  Grief, pain, heartbreak-one group of people does not experience it more strongly  than another.  You can see it in the tears, the anguish on their faces in the pictures-they tell the story.  My heart goes out to China and their people.
