Summer Busyness! Part 1 · August 21, 2008

Wow.  Time has really flown this summer.  It has to have been our busiest summer ever!  Cade finished his indoor soccer season and also tried out for a select-type soccer team and made it, so this past weekend we were in Dallas for a soccer tournament and now the outdoor soccer season starts in 2 weeks-the boy is busy!  This summer we have made quite a few trips.  Our big one was to North Dakota to see a lot of Jeff's family.  Grandma Selma and Karen even flew in for a few days so Jenna was able to meet all of the great-greatparents and many aunts, uncles, cousins-it was great.  The kids went fishing, flying, driving go-carts, lawnmowers, driving a truck-yep that's right-so many fun things for the kiddos.

Our next trip was a weekender to Austin for a "China Sisters Reunion" and Jenna's two roommates from her orphanage were there and quite a few older girls that were in Miss Abby's group (the family in Dallas that was in our adoption group).  Did that make sense at all?  This was so much fun and I really can't wait until our girls are a little older and can participate in everything like the older girls.  This group tries to get together annually in different places.

Cade starts school Monday and I can't believe it's already time!  For those that don't know, Cade will be repeating 2nd grade.  He really needs to be a stronger reader and with his learning issues another year in 2nd grade will help him.  He has been diagnosed with ADHD and we're working on ways to best help him.  If you are a parent of an ADHD child then you can understand when I say it is not always easy and can be quite frustrating for the child and the parents.  He can't help his impulsivity and short-attention span and we tend to forget that almost on a daily basis.  We did reach the point to try medication and it has worked amazingly well but with a few side effects.  He hardly eats while on it and his sensitivity is increased while on it.  We decided to stop giving it to him during the summer because there was no learning in daycare or even a really structured environment.  He eats quite well right now and has gained 3 lbs. the last half of this summer!!  I'm so glad about that!  I don't think we're going to give the medicine to him on the weekends so hopefully he will eat a lot. :)

Jenna Bean is just improving and growing by leaps and bounds!  She took her first steps when we were in North Dakota and now walks all over the place.  She still falls often and then gets lazy and starts crawling or walking on her knees.  She finally drinks from a sippy cup!!!!!!  I bought those disposable cups with the straws and she took to it right away and now she drinks from all sippy cups!  (Carrie, the same ones as Gracie!) They still give her a bottle at daycare because they get fussy when they see the other kids with a bottle but she will promote up to another class next week so hopefully they won't use bottles in there.  She is a chatter-box and I don't know what she is saying but she knows.  She loves to hum when she hears music or when you sing to her.  It's the cutest thing!  She weighs 21.3 lbs now, forgot how long she is though.

Oh yeah, we went to the Wiggles concert with our friends-Julie, Brian and Miss Erin.  It was actually a lot of fun.  Very loud.  Jenna cried a little at first and then really loosened up.  She would have nothing to do with sitting down so we stood up for almost the entire show-that was difficult!  Jenna got to meet Jeff when they went around the audience meeting people, she didn't quite know what to think of him and I really didn't have time to explain to him her stranger anxiety. Ha!  Speaking of that, she is doing so much better...she's goes to a lot of people now.

Enjoy the pictures.  We got a new camera. I probably will make two entries for pictures.
