June Happenings · July 09, 2008

Wow, another month has flown by!  Jenna has been a part of our family for a little over 6 months now-it's so hard to believe.  She has made great progress over this last month.  Let's see, we now have 6 teeth!  Still not off of the bottle though-can't seem to get her used to a cup.  She is mobile now and is fast-she disappeared on me one day and she does NOT answer when you call her name-the little turkey!  I was almost in full blown panic mode with Cade and I running through the house (I had been cleaning the kitchen and he & Jenna were watching tv-well, Cade was anyway-ha!).  We found her sitting in the doorway of my bathroom.  She pulled herself up for the first time and is now walking around the furniture-incredible!  She tries to sit from a standing position and can't quite make it so she bends at the waist, takes her hands off the furniture and just lets herself fall backwards-too cute!  She says a few words, sort of.  She can sign "more" and she will say "mo", Ba for bottle, bye-bye, nigh-nigh (night night), bup for up, snack (yes, that's right but I have yet to hear it) they told me at daycare that they were asking one of the other kiddos if they wanted a snack and Jenna piped up and said "snack" clear as day-that's my girl, we wouldn't want her to miss out on a food opportunity!

I tried to upload a video of Jenna standing up for the first time, but I needed the software for the camera and I don't know where it is!  Her head is doing great-I can even see the changes now.  We go next week for an update again.  Her stranger anxiety is still there, I haven't handed her to anyone really in awhile BUT last wednesday I had taken off of work and Jenna spent the day with me and took a 3 hour nap-when we went to Church that night she happily went to Taylor (who is 13 and her babysitter as of a few days later) and hung out it Taylor's arms for awhile-I was very excited.  Maybe she's coming out of it somewhat.  With that fantastic accomplishment, Jeff and I booked Taylor for her first official babysitting job with Jenna.  We took Cade to the movies and a little shopping last weekend.  Jenna did great with Taylor and we're looking forward to booking her for Cade and Jenna so we can have a "date" and even go to a more grown-up movie! yippee!

What else?  Well, I turned 40 last week-hard for me to believe, but I sure felt it that day as it was day 4 of no sleep with Jenna (she was cutting another tooth).  Cade is playing indoor soccer-can't remember if I mentioned that last time.  He is in soccer camp this week.  We leave for North Dakota on the 19th and we can't wait.  It's going to be so great to see everyone and just relax on the farm-that's what I'm looking forward to-sitting on the deck not doing a thing-ahhhhhhhh, just the thought!  At the end of July, I'm taking the kids to see the Wiggles in Shreveport with my friend Julie and her family.  Jeff can't make that excursion since it's the 3rd day back from vacation.  Anyway, I'm really looking forward to that-we missed them when they came through when Cade was a little younger.

Oh, in case anyone's been wondering if we stopped thinking about child #3?  We haven't, we're still praying and looking into things.  We'll see. It's still weighing on my heart, heavily, that there is a #3 out there for us.  We're just waiting.

Also, I will continue to post once a month but sometimes it may be more, but at least once.  Still looking into a family blog too.

One last thing, I posted on adoption language, but I also have to mention that adoptive parents have certain language we should use with our children and it's hard to learn that and get it right as well.  For instance, "birth mother" has always been the accepted term, now everyone is moving to "first mother" it seems.  Hard for me to change because Cade knows he has a birth mother.  I am his 2nd mom or forever mom-quite possibly, I'm the third mom-wouldn't the orphanage be the 2nd mom.  Anyway, so much to learn but what's easy to get: we're a family.

Just signed "more" for the first time-the cup? useless.
I added some cake pictures awhile back in the cake section if you haven't seen them.
