Prayers please for a good check up at Duke · September 19, 2007

Brea and I will head out early tomorrow morning for her first visit with the transplant cardiologist at Duke.  I am a bit nervous because they do not have a large pediatric heart transplant program but the doctor that we saw last week in Charlotte assurred us that they are well qualified to provide her post transplant care.  I did spend quite a bit of time talking with thier nurse practitioner on the phone and she said they would be happy to work with Arkansas Chilrens Hospital on all of Brea's results so I am praying this will work out.  I really got the feeling that the doctor is Charlotte was stretched thin since he said that he sees adults and children and he also goes to satellite clincs to see patients.  He also mentioned that his style is more laid back and that he doesn't believe in doing a biopsy unless he sees a problem.  I guess some might say that I am a "type A" personality and I like having a plan so that didn't sit real well with me.  I believe in being proactive and I like knowing for sure that there is no rejection.  I have a lot of confidence in our doctor and transplant team in Little Rock and it is hard starting over with a new transplant team.

Tomorrow Brea will be having an EKG, an echocardiogram, an x-ray, blood work and a physical exam.  They will also be scheduling her next biopsy and I'm sure it will be within the next week or so since we are a bit off schedule.  Please pray that all goes well and that Brea is not afraid of her new doctor.  She was so good with her doctor in Little Rock and her staff (I guess I should say they were good with her) and I know it will be hard on her to have someone new poking at her.  I'll update when I know how things went.

On a final note...I am excited that i am only having to drive 40 minutes to take her to the doctor instead of the usual 7.5-8 hours one way!

Goodnight from Wake Forest where the peanut is still wide eyed and bushy tailed at 11:00 pm!
