Can you say S-T-R-E-S-S-E-D? · August 28, 2007

On our way home from our house hunting trip we received a call from our realtor telling us that our lender had gone under.  We were shocked!  We had just met with him the day before and we've used them many times before.  Well, after calling and speaking directly with him, we learned that the company that they got thier funding from had indeed gone under but they were in the process of being picked up by another company which was fine with us.  Anyway, due to the name change, we were not able to close today.  The lender didn't have all our paperwork back from underwriting even though they had our final approval.  The builder's attorney didn't have any other appointments until next month for us to close and it was starting to look like our things were going to have to be put in storage because the movers were almost half way done loading the truck.  Fast forward 8 hours...we are closing Thursday morning and the movers will deliver our belongings on Friday morning.  Crisis one-solved!

The mess from all the packaging materials was making me nuts so I decided to sweep the dining room while Brea was napping.  Soon after starting I realized that the metal hand truck that the movers were using was scratching our beautiful Brazilian Cherry hardwood floors!  I've often heard the expression "blood boiling mad" but never really felt that I had experienced it until today!  Our floors were just finished last Thursday after much fussing and fighting with the flooring company and finally we were thrilled with how they turned out.  I went outside to talk with the driver and he came in to inspect the floors.  He agreed that the hand truck was probably what was causing the deep scratches and he called the claims office to get someone to work on the problem.  Crisis two - resolution pending!

Due to the rain on Sunday and our busy schedule with Baker's birthday and the going away get together at the neighbor's house, Danny didn't get to complete all of the items on his "Honey Do List".  When he left for Raleigh on Monday I had no idea how I was going to take our swing set apart, take our storage shed apart, remove the under the counter CD player and the wooden brackets for the window treatments in our bedroom and the baby gate and brackets at the bottom of the stairs.  Well, I'm happy to say that my wonderful neighbors (Arnold and Alex) came over and took the swing set apart.  It took them two nights and I'm quite sure they had many other things that they would rather have been doing but nonetheless, they did it and I am so thankful that they did.  Our other neighbor Brian came over with his handy dandy drill and took down the CD player and speakers and I'm so glad he did...I had forgotten all about them!  It is hard to think of moving to a new neighborhood where we will know no one when we have been blessed with such wonderful neighbors here in Louisiana.  Crisis three - solved!

Poor Brea is so confused by this moving thing!  She does not like the idea of a stranger putting her toys in boxes.  She looks at me with the most pitiful look and just says "momma" as if she wants me to do something to stop them.  I know she will be fine once we are there and she sees her things again but for now she is glued to my hip most of the time while there are strangers in the house.  When she does decide to get down and walk, I put her squeaky shoes on her.  They are great for keeping up with her but boy can those things give you a headache.

The packing and loading will continue in the morning and hopefully will wrap up around 2:00 pm.  The driver wil head out for North Carolina Wednesday evening and we will head out bright and early Thursday morning.  It is a 14-15 hour drive and having three kids, two dogs and a cat along for the ride will keep things interesting.  I've decided that we are going to splurge on a new Dora video because I just don't think I can listen to the "Cowgirl Dora" DVD one more time much less 14-15 hours of it!

I'd like to ask you to pray for a dear friend of mine.  Her daughter went away to college and she and her daughter are having a really hard time with this.  It broke my heart today to see her hurting so badly because I know that I will probably feel the same way when the day comes for Brooke, Baker and Brea to go away to college.  Gosh, I get teary eyed just thinking about it so I can only imagine what she is going through right now.  Please keep them in your prayers for peace and comfort that only God can give.

Even with all that is going on in my little world I can't help but remind myself that things could be (and have been) so much worse.  Life is too short to stress over the little stuff and in the big picture this really is just little stuff.  Thank you Lord for giving me the right attitude to handle all that is coming my way this week.    Please give me the patience, energy and sense of humor to keep this attitude!

On a final note...turning around and finding my two year old trying to hoola hoop puts all this into perspective.  Life is short and we are going to live each day to the fullest...moving or not!
