May Milestones · June 12, 2008

A little late with my update!  May came and went and now we're half way into June-wow!  Time is really flying.  May was very busy for us and turned out to be a month of sickness for the kids.  Cade caught his first stomach virus-EVER-poor guy.  He missed a couple of days of school and was miserable.  Jenna was sick twice in May-I sooo can't wait for her immune system to get strong.  I think she gets really sick when she starts cutting a tooth.  She has a couple more trying to come through.  She has 3 right now-2 on bottom, 1 on top.  The girl is crawling all over the place and she is FAST.  She loves to go in Cade's room to play, but we have to be really careful because of all his "little" toys-lego parts, etc.  Oh, and yes she has finally eaten the dog food-twice!  The first time she only had one piece in her mouth and a bunch in both hands; the second time she had been munching for quite some time, it was running down her mouth and she has a mouth full-our fault-we were trying to pack the car to go to Galveston and asked Cade to keep an eye on her.  Of course cartoons were on and he got lost in those and Jenna enjoyed some, apparently, tasty dog food!

We went to see our niece, Hannah, in her play "101 Dalmations" and she was wonderful.  Jeff didn't even recognize her because of the great costume and makeup.  But her singing and speaking was by far the best-I think she's very talented in this area!  Jenna was mesmerized by the whole production and even clapped when everyone started clapping-very cute.

Cade and I went with my mom to see the Chinese Acrobat show in Shreveport-they are absolutely amazing and I highly recommend the show if you ever get the opportunity to see them.  We also went to Galveston for our annual trip with some of our friends (two other families).  This year there were 12 total-6 being kids.  We had a great time and it was so much fun just hanging out with them!  We didn't get to play in the ocean much-the waves were horrible (I'm sure the surfers liked them however).  Jenna loves the water and loved digging her hands in the sand and throwing on my leg.

Cade finished school and I'm so proud of the progress he made this year.  He came so far-I actually have an additional post I'll do in a few days about this.  He also finished soccer and has found his momentum again.  He wants to focus on soccer so that's what we're going to do (well, that and basketball).  He has 2 basketball camps next week and his 2nd soccer camp in July.

Jenna is still experiencing her stranger anxiety, even with family.  It seems to have gotten worse-I don't even really try to hand her to anyone anymore-it just stresses her out so much.  So if you see us and I don't just try to give her to you then you'll know why.  I've talked to other adoptive parents and many have experienced this and say it's a phase and it will pass.

We went to the Chinese Consulate in Houston for a "Children's Day" celebration which is much like Christmas/mother's/father's day for the kids in China-it is their day with lots of gifts and celebrating.  The best thing however was getting to see Carrie, Brian and Grace again.  They were in our group and we even traveled together to and from China.  I have missed them so much and when Carrie walked through the door I had to fight hard not to cry-it's emotional to think about when you have this connection-you travel together, are together everyday, your girls were in the same room in the orphanage-you bond.  It was so good to visit with them for a little while!  Grace has really grown and is walking all over the place-another mover and shaker!

That's it for now....stay tuned however...I have more to say on two more topics in the near future but it's not about family happenings.  Oh, on that note, I'm thinking about closing down this website and starting another one-maybe on blogger or something-I'm looking into it.  My reasoning is that we have Jenna now and I think I would rather have a "family" website.  Plus some of the things I may talk about have nothing to do with Jenna or her adoption so I think something different is in order.  Still thinking.....
