We had a great time trick or treating last night! Brea really got into it this year. She LOVED her costume and kept her little headband on ALL night which is amazing since she doesn't normally like headbands or hairbows! She got the hang of ringing the bell and once she got so excited that she even knocked while waiting for someone to answer the door!
After trick or treating we went to a Halloween party down the street where the kids made magnets, decorated their own pumpkins and participated in a Mummy wrapping contest. Luckily for me, the mummy was Danny! Brooke and Baker won the contest and Danny looked like a real Mummy...a toilet paper Mummy that is!
I knows lots of folks think of Halloween as an evil holiday but we've decided that since it is so commercial we would put a positive spin on it and let the kids have a little fun with it. As we carved pumpkins the other night I told the kids the story of the jack-o-lantern which goes something like this...
We are all pumpkins until we invite Christ into our lives. Once he comes into our lives, He scoops out all the yucky stuff, carves a smile on our face and puts a light inside us for all the world to see. Christ is the difference between being just a pumpkin and being a wonderful jack-o-lantern!
I've told the kids this story for years and it is my hope that someday they will tell their kids who will tell their kids and so on. Halloween is like the internet...it can be evil or it can turned into an opportunity to teach others about God!
