Brea's 1 Year Heart Transplant Anniversary! · March 31, 2008

Today is a very special day for our family. We are celebrating Brea's 1st anniversary with her new heart! We were told that the first year is the hardest with a new heart. There is so much to learn and the whole family has to adjust to a new lifestyle. Brea has had to fight off all types of infections while having her immune system "turned down" by the anti-rejection drugs. She has endured more blood work, x-rays, echocardiograms, EKG's and heart biopsies than any child should ever be subjected to and yet she still smiles at the doctors and nurses. Yes, it has been hard but through the grace of God and the prayers of many we have made it!

We had planned to spend the day at the zoo and have a special dinner at home tonight with a heart shaped cake for dessert but it is raining out so we are trying to come up with an alternative.  I'll post pictures tomorrow of Brea with her heart cake.

This evening we are going to call (with the help of a translator and a 3 way call) Salvador's mother. Today marks the one year passing of her child and we want her to know that we think of her and Salvador every single day and that we pray for her. We are also going to attempt to set a date for us to visit her in San Antonio. I am nervous about the call and I'm not sure what to say to this precious woman who gave us such a special gift so please pray that the Lord will give me the words to express our sincere gratitude. I'll let you know how the call goes.

We want to thank each and every one of you who has prayed for Brea and our family over the last 14 months.  It has been a rough ride at times but we are confident that this is all part of God's plan and that He will use this to glorify Him!  We couldn't have made it through this without your help, support and prayers.  God bless you for being the hands and feet of Christ to our family.
