October Updates · October 20, 2008

Conversations between a Dad and his son:

Preface: Jeff was in charge of dinner that night, so he was basically cooking for Cade and himself.  Jeff was pretty excited with himself-he made pork barbeque sandwiches and mac & cheese-because our household loves mac&cheese

Dad: Hey Cade, c'mon and eat, man I made barbeque sandwiches and macaroni and cheese.

Cade:  raising a hand-similar to a wave - "I'm just not feeling that right now."

Mom:  Bursts out laughing.

Conversations between a Dad and his 18-month old daughter:

Preface:  sitting in the rocking chair with Jenna playing on a cell phone, Mom's in kitchen cooking dinner-eavesdropping because it's just too cute.

Daddy:  ring, ring  Jenna, it's for you.

Jenna: holds phone to ear and babbles, dah dah dah

Daddy:  ring, ring.  again?  Boys, stop calling my little girl.

Jenna:  just staring at daddy, wanting the phone.

Daddy:  ring, ring. BOYS, I said STOP calling my little girl.

Jenna:  Oblivious, just wants to stick phone in mouth.

Mommy:  Laughing silently in kitchen- this was great.

Cade and Jenna are doing great.  Cade is playing soccer again and about to sign up for basketball.  The kid is crazy about sports!  School is going great for him and him staying in 2nd grade again was the best choice.  His reading is going great, his confidence is building again and he loves his high grades.  I just love listening to him read at night, so very different than last year, with the tears, yelling and wanting to quit (on both our parts).  I'm so proud of him!  He's just growing up so fast, too fast.  His conversations include tackle football (and yes I finally agreed to let him play next year-ugh!), cell phones, fast cars, going away to college, driver's licenses and girls.

Jenna is 18-months old now.  And she is an absolutely fantastic child.  She has so much sassy personality.  It's cute when she's in a good mood and Lord help me when she's not.  She's not so into being buckled into her carseat all of the time.  And you just can't bend a toddler when they stiffen their entire body into a rod.  Sometimes I just stand there and laugh at her which REALLY helps the situation, let me tell you.

She's turning into quite the girlie-girl.  She carries her purse around with her cell phone and some make-up brushes.  She powders her face and puts my lipstick on her lips (with the lid on of course).  She's not talking very good, but I can understand a few words.  "No" is one I understand very well.  However, her comprehension of the English language is growing by leaps and bounds.  Anytime I ask her to find something-her purse, her cup, her blanket, shoes, etc-she goes looking and usually comes back with it. Sometimes she comes back and shrugs her shoulders saying her version of "I don't know".  She knows the parts of her face and she knows the color blue.  I think we know some other colors but we miss those sometimes.

She's not going to physical therapy anymore.  We go back to Dallas Friday for a check-up but she's been out of her helmet a few days because her forehead got really irritated again and then she must have scratched it during the night because there were sores on it and we had to get rid of those.

I am moving Jenna to Cade's daycare next Monday so we need your prayers for an easy transition and peace during this time.  It's something we thought long and hard about and she's now at the age that they start taking kids.  The convenience factor just wins out for me on this one.  I love both daycares and she loves her teachers, but I need some stress relief in the mornings and afternoons.  It will be so much easier to have them both at the same daycare.  Cade is really excited she's going to be there.

New website update:  I am working on this and in the process of developing the home page.  I'm excited about it as that will be a better journal for the entire family and my random thoughts on whatever which you can either read or bypass.  Not sure when I'm going to "unveil" it because I'm still learning how to work around it.

Stay tuned for another update not related to a kid update in the next little while.

Many blessings,

Lauree
