While Brea was hospitalized at Arkansas Children's Hospital in Little Rock we met many families who also had children on the heart floor. We have kept in touch with a handful of them. Recently I visited the care page of one of the patient's named Braden and read a poem that his mom had posted on his site that she said "touched her heart". As I read it my eyes filled with tears. I thought back on conversations that I've had with people who asked me things like..."are you angry with God", "do you regret adopting Brea", "would you do it again if you knew all that you know now about what you would have to go through" and "do you ask God why". I can honestly say that those questions were never hard for me to answer...I was never angry at God, I have no regrets when it comes to Brea, I would do it all again for her and I've never asked God why. I guess I always knew that God knew why this was happening and that was enough for me. I hope you enjoy this poem as much as I have. Do I feel special to be the mom of a special needs child...no. Do I feel special to be Brea's mom...you bet! She is a blessing in every sense of the word and I'm grateful that God has entrusted her to me.
Before I share the poem with you, I'd like to ask you to pray for little Braden. He has had a tough time and has been sick most of the year. Please pray for a full recovery for him as well as strength for his mom and dad.
Here is the poem...enjoy!
The Chosen One - Author Unknown
I had a dream the other night
It came to me so clear
I stood before the throne of God
Afraid to come too near
God said to me "I hear your prayers"
There's answers you can't find
I asked you here to talk to me
And help to ease your mind
I said, "Well yes God, I am upset"
About my special one
This punishment is awfully harsh
What ever have I done?
God looked at me and shook his head
and said you've got it wrong
I sent this special child to you
because you are so strong
I searched and searched to find someone
With love so rare
A parent so unselfish
That could give that special care
I try and save my special gifts
Like those you're speaking of
For special kind of parents
I call the "Chosen Ones"
Of all the ones to choose from
think this I have done
A parent who deserves the best
An honor you have won
