Mary,
I was touched by your comments about your prayers for the family of the child whose heart Brea received for the transplant... especially your comment about how much you love them, though you had never met them. Two weeks ago, my 14 month old niece died after a accident that caused brain death. Her parents decided to donate her organs to help other children and, in a way, so that their daughter could live on. Our hearts are broken but it is a comfort to think of lives that were saved becuase of the gift of organ donation. Thanks for sharing your story. I found your website through a good friend of mine. She is the mother of a daughter from China, and my DH and I are in the waiting stage (LID 1/5/07). God bless and I will pray for Brea's continued recovery.

Mary,
I have followed your blog since Brea was sick. Your strength and that of your children is amazing. But I also know that it is all the more real when you also write of those times where you feel overwhelmed, weak, and powerless. So I appreciated your post regarding the day you felt down. Then what a post to follow: the news that you could possibly meet Brea's donor's mother! Wow!

I was just reading your post, A new kind of "Normal" and a moment of weakness, and it really touched me. I am a mother of a 5 year old son and a almost 2 year old that we adopted from China. I love them both deeply. But I was thinking about how much closer you would be drawn to a child was critically ill. You are a wonderful mother. Your strength during your difficult times is truely amazing. Thanks for sharring your life with the world. Brea and your family are in my prayers.

Hi Mary. I have followed your blog for quite some time but haven't commented in a while. Take a minute and read your last entry. "When you are done paying the bills and fighting the insurance companies, you spend time outside playing with your lovely children and because of that you often don't have time to send others cards or gifts?????" Honey, when do you ever have time for yourself, let alone others. You have all your priorities absolutely right. Taking care all the "stuff" that needs to get done, then enjoying your children and family. If you have people in your life that would get upset for missing a birthday after what you all have been through, maybe you should reevaluate how much these people care about you. I have three children of my own and work too. My friends and family have a one year grace period (like wedding gifts). You have one year from the actual date to get a birthday card. It makes for a lot of humor. The people in my life that I love dearly know how much they mean to me and don't require cards to back that up.
You are a strong, loving, warm lady. Don't be so hard on yourself. And don't apologize for not being able to fit any more on your plate. Hang in there with the insurance. It will work out, somehow.
Blessings,
Marilyn

Mary, I just got caught up on your latest updates. I confess that I know nothing about pediatric transplants, but I do believe that God has a plan for all things. Your husband is right - none of us is promised tomorrow. However, God placed Brea with YOUR family because he knew that she would need a transplant and that you all would be able to handle it. I believe that Brea went through all that and will have a LONG life ahead of her. As you said so many times in the past 8 months, He has plans for her. He is going to use her story (and your story!) to bring others closer to Him. And please remember that statistics are just numbers. They don't represent the miracles that occur everyday all around us. You and Brea and your whole family are such an inspiration to me and to so many others. Please know that you have so many people praying for you, Brea's health, the financial situation, etc. God will hear all those prayers; I know he will! I wish that I could meet you all one day, but please know that you are in my thoughts and prayers daily. Have a nice day! Love, Wendy
