We made it!
We can't believe we are actually here in China. We left our home at 3:30 AM on the 10th and arrived at our hotel in Beijing after 24 hours of travel.
Beijing is amazing. For a city of 14 million people it is very clean! There are apartment buildings in every direction you look. Construction is everywhere as they prepare to welcome the Olympics to China in 2008. We are staying in the Beijing International Hotel and the view from our 8th floor window is spectacular!
Last night we went to dinner down the street at a local Chinese restaurant. The food was very good but nothing like the Chinese food that we get in America. The highlight of the evening was when a woman and three men walked in with their DOG! The dog even got his own seat at the table and they were feeding him off their plates. While they were waiting on their food they took his leash off and he came over to visit us. Danny and I were cracking up. Can you imagine a dog in a restaurant in the USA? The health department would shut them down faster than you could blink an eye!
Our guide has lots of things planned for us. We are seeing an acrobat show this evening and then the real touring starts in the morning when we visit the Great Wall. We have already met one of the other couples in our travel group and they are really sweet. They are adopting a 4 1/2 year old little girl that they have named Molly. The rest of our group arrives throughout the day today.
So far we have found the people here to be very friendly. They are eager to help you and most of them speak at least a little English. Danny gets lots of looks from the locals since he is a good two feet taller than lots of them. The people here are so small that I even feel tall!
It is Thursday here so only 3 more days until we meet Brea!
Brooke and Baker...Mommy sent you an email but for some reason it hasn't gone through. Daddy is going to try to figure out why and I'm sure he will get it working so be patient. We love you and miss you bunches already! Hugs and kisses, Mommy
