Update-March 20th-Surgery on Thursday

Well, it is official.  Our little peanut will have a Berlin heart put in on Thursday.  They finally have FDA approval and the device is on its way from Germany.  The surgeon met with us this morning and said the surgery will take 6-8 hours.  Her kidney function seems a little better today because they cut back on her blood pressure medicine and her valve seems to not be leaking quite as much BUT Brea's heart has no reserve and in an emergent situation she would have to be put on ECMO (heart/lung machine).  If they put her on the Berlin heart she will get stronger for the transplant surgery and unlike ECMO, she can be on a Berlin for quite a while.  When a donor heart becomes available she will have a transplant and the Berlin will be removed.

Please keep Brea and our family in your prayers.  This is going to be a long week.

Hugs from the CVICU.
