18 months and lots of new photos... · October 02, 2008

This week we celebrated 18 months with Brea's new heart.  In the last 18 months Brea has learned to walk, run, hop, talk, sing, dance, ride a tricycle, float on her back in the pool, sing the months of the year, recognize her shapes, colors and letters and tell knock knock jokes.  She also started preschool, started attending Sunday school all by herself and has potty trained!  It has been a wonderful time of watching out precious little girl grow and learn and we are so thankful that God chose us to be her parents.

Today we spent the day at Duke.  Brea had her check up with the transplant team and the news was ALL good!  Her lab work looked great and Dr. Carboni used the word "beautiful" to describe her chest x-rays and echocardiogram!  She showed him how to use his stethascope and demonstated her climbing abilities as the doctor and I were talking by pushing a chair over to the sink and climbing up to get to the rubber gloves!  He just laughed and said she was a "normal three year old".  She weighed 27 pounds and she is now 35 inches tall.  She is still considered small on the growth charts BUT she is healthy!  She will be having a heart biopsy in November so please keep her in your prayers that no rejection is found.  If this biopsy is good she will not need another one for one year!!!

Last night at softball practice our oldest princess got hurt pretty badly.  She was trying to catch a pop fly when she was hit in the cheek with the softball.  She tried so hard to be tough but when she realized her braces were stuck to the inside of her cheek she lost it and the tears started to fall.  We rushed her home and thankfully her othodontist (who lives across the street) was outside in his front yard.  He got some gloves and tried to seperate the cheek from the braces but when he realized how bad it was he suggested that we go to his office so he could numb her cheek.  After a good dose of numbing medication and about 30 minutes of seperating the cheek from the braces we were on our way home.  Thankfully no teeth or bones were broken BUT she is pretty badly bruised and swollen today.    About a week ago Baker sat on a bee at his sister's softball game.  Needless to say, the bee was not very fond of being sat on and took out its revenge by stinging him a couple of times on the backside.  No one could ever say that our family is dull...there is always something happening at our house!!!

As promised...here are some new photos of the kiddos!  Enjoy!

Brea and Barney...ready to go to preschool! That is her preschool t-shirt that she is wearing. To give you an idea of how tiny our little princess is...her t-shirt is a toddler size 2/4. It was the smallest that they had at preschool and after a couple of washing in hot water it fits her pretty good!
