We have moved! · December 22, 2005

See the bottom of this page for an update!

We are moving to Baton Rouge, LA!  We learned two weeks ago that we will soon be moving to Baton Rouge, LA.  Danny is excited about the challenges that he will face there and the kids are excited about their new schools and the new friends they will make.  I'm not so excited about the unpacking. :(

We decided to go ahead and buy another house because there are so many things that will need to be done so that our adoption can proceed without delay.  We will close on 1/19/06.  It is located in Prairieville, LA which is a suburb of Baton Rouge.  The housing market in Baton Rouge is rough right now.  There are more buyers than sellers due to the hurricane and housing prices have sky rocketed.  We made an offer on another house and although our offer was above the asking price, we lost the house to another buyer who obviously offered more for it.  This house is a french style home with 5 bedrooms, a living room, dining room, keeping room, eat in kitchen, gameroom and 3 baths.  There is also a neighborhood pool and clubhouse.  The kids are excited about that and it will be a great place for them to meet and make new friends this Summer.  It is on 1/2 an acre.  We are not going to miss mowing three acres!

Here are a few pictures of the house.  We love the openess of it and the hearth room off the kitchen.  The house is only six months old but there are lots of projects to be completed as soon as we move in.  We will be fencing in the back yard with a six foot privacy fence and replacing the shades in the hearth room with wood blinds.  The bedroom that will become the nursery is currently used as an office and is painted burgundy so we will be painting it soon after we get unpacked.  Brooke and Baker have decided that we will need to install a baby gate at the bottom of the staircase to keep their baby sister downstairs and out of their toys.  We have lots to do!

We will soon be sending out change of address cards to our friends and family.

UPDATE!

Well, the move is complete but we are still not unpacked!   The kids have started in their new school and love it!  Danny is busy at work and I'm buried in moving boxes at home!  We are learning to love the local cuisine (some of us more than others) and are still trying to find our way around town.  The kids are looking forward to the 27th and 28th of this month...they get two days off from school here for Mardi Gras!  We are going to pass on the whole New Orleans Mardi Gras scene but will be going to Lafayette for a parade and crab boil.  Here are a few things that we have learned since moving here...

The people here will put a crawfih in anything, including pie!

Alligator is good eating and yes, it does taste like chicken!

Fresh frog legs, crawfish tails, alligator and squid are all available for purchase at the local Wal-Mart right next to the fresh ground beef.

The people here are very friendly and we can even understand most of them.

Mardi Gras is a local holiday and everything closes...schools, businesses, etc.

The meaning of Mardi Gras is taught in puclic school even though it is affliated with the Catholic religion.  Maybe the whole seperation of church and state subject never made it down this far south!

There is a Catholic church on every corner and if you are any other religion you'll be hard pressed to find a church to go to on Sunday morning.

We are enjoying it here and I must admit that 75 degress in January sure beats snow anyday!!!!  We would love to have visitors and welcome anyone who would like to come.  We won't promise not to feed ya red beans and rice now that we know how to make them but we will promise a good to be had by all.
