Today has been a great day for
Brea
! We are still battling her blood pressure but for the most part she is doing incredibly well. Her blood pressure fluctuates between 90/50 to 175/105. This is not unusual for heart transplant patients but it is something that they will need to get under control with medication. We did learn today that Brea’s new heart came from a donor that was larger than her so Brea’s body is still trying to get used to a heart that is a little larger and use to working harder for a larger body.
The air in
Brea
’s chest cavity has resolved on its own and no new chest tubes were needed to deal with it. She is still in need of a little oxygen but they hope to have her off of it within the next day or two.
Today
Brea
started to take her formula through a bottle instead of through a feeding tube! This was great to see since we were worried that she would go home on a “button” which is a device surgically implanted in the abdomen that you put food and medicine through. She is also being a very brave girl and taking her medicine orally without a fuss! That is a big accomplishment since there is a lot of medicine and according to the nurses, some of it doesn’t taste very good.
I know that I’ve asked you many times to pray for children here at ACH and their families and once again, I’d like to ask you to pray for a little guy and his family who are really going through a rough time. His name is Tanner and he is only a few weeks old. His family has been told that he has only a few more days to live if his kidneys don’t start working. They went to sleep while he was on the bypass machine during surgery and haven’t recovered from it. It is so hard to walk around with a smile on our face while there are so many others here who are hurting. This place is such an emotional rollercoaster. One minute you are floating on cloud 9 and the next minute you are at an all time low.
Today while
Brea
was napping I decided to take a walk outside. I sat in the sun and listened while the breeze gently shook the leaves on the trees and the birds chirped. There was a beautiful butterfly flying around the top of a small tree and as I watched it fly away I wondered what it would be like to be a butterfly and not have a care in the world. Suddenly I smiled because I realized that God probably sent me that little butterfly and the singing birds as a little reminder that He provides for all our needs. “Look at the birds of the air: they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they?” Matthew 6:26 I thought to myself…yes God, Brea is of value to you and you love her more than even I do so I know you will provide. I went back into the hospital with a sense of peace that I haven’t had in a while.

’s complete recovery. She is a special little girl and now that the tape and most of the tubes have been removed from her face, she is stealing the hearts of many here in the CVICU. God is still in the business of miracles and I am so glad He is!
