Update-February 24th-A new baby step and new hope!

Saturday, February 24th @ 5:00 pm central time

Today is a new day and we have new hope for a brighter tomorrow!  Brea's doctor was here earlier and decided that she was going to turn the ventilator down two notches from 18 breathes per minute to 16 breathes per minute.  Brea is tolerating it well and taking breathes above and beyond what the machine is doing for her!  No other changes to report but we are celebrating each and every baby step as a gift from God!

This morning at shift change we met Brea's nurse for today.  His name is Trev and he is special because 12 years ago he suddenly became ill with the EXACT same illness.  He was placed on a transplant list one and a half weeks later and received his new heart the next day.  He has lived a very normal life and is an RN here in the CV ICU.  He feels that God led him to do this work to share his story with families like ours to let them know that there is hope and never to give up.

This morning when we went down to grab some breakfast we met Ty Pennington from Extreme Makeover!  He is here at the hospital to do a show on a boy that received treatment here and has been saving soda can pull tabs to recycle to buy toys for the little ones here receiving treatment.  They came to our floor (CV ICU) but the cameras were not allowed in because it is ICU.  Brea received a sweet book with a cute cat puppet.  She is going to love it when she wakes up!  Ty gave me a big hug and told me to hang in there.  He and the crew are really as nice as they seem on the show.  The show is going to air in 4-6 weeks.

That is all for today.  Keep praying!  I believe with all my heart that God has big plans for this little girl and He is going to use her as a witness to the miracles He can do!
