2008...off to a bumpy start · February 06, 2008

2008 has gotten off to a bumpy start.  Brea was scheduled for a heart biopsy on 1/24/08 but it had to be rescheduled because she had an ear infection and cold.  Between the two she was pretty sick for about two weeks.  We spent day and night rocking, reading, wiping her nose and sleeping in the recliner.  I'm happy to report that she has made a full recovery and is back to her usual routine...dumping toys, pushing her stuffed elephant around the house in a doll stroller and dancing.  The heart biopsy has been rescheduled for 2/21/08 so please pray that she stays well and that the results are negative for rejection.  I'm pretty nervous because this is the first time she is having a biopsy at Duke.  I guess I am just comfortable with the folks at Arkansas Children's Hospital and the way they do things so this will be a different experience for us.

Brooke and Baker go to year round school so they are just going back to school from Christmas break.  They had five weeks off...way too much time off for the middle of winter!  It is much easier to fill the time off when it is warm outside and you can swim and play than it is when it is in the 30's and cold and rainy out.  They are glad to be back in school.  They missed their school friends and I think they were just plain bored!  We went to museums, ice skating, movies, played tennis and did the indoor inflatable place but they really just wanted to go to school,  Needless to say, we didn't do anything while Brea was sick except trips back and forth to the doctor so that added to the boredom.  They are really happy to be back at school but Brea is pretty bummed about it.  She talks about going to "kool" (as she calls it) all the time and I keep telling her that she'll get to go someday but for now she gets to stay home with mommy.

A month or so ago I posted about a contest on Facebook to raise money for Love Without Boundaries.  I am happy to tell you that they won!  They had over $90K in donations and they won the grand prize of $50K!  They have already committed to providing heart surgery for ten lucky babies in Chinese orphanages and they will be able to help countless other children with their nutrition programs.  Thank you for your donations to LWB as well as your prayers for them during the contest.

Recently I came across a couple of saying that I want to share with you.  I hope you enjoy them as much as I have.

"Blood is thicker than water but LOVE is thicker than blood."

"I've never seen a hearse pulling a U-Haul trailer behind it."

and last but not least...

"I'd rather walk in pride than ride in humiliation" (by Martin Luther King Jr. when he commented on the Rosa Parks bus boycott.)

Hugs,

Mary
