Swinging, Climbing and Carving fun! · October 22, 2009

Yesterday was just beautiful here in Baton Rouge.  It was warm with a slight breeze and a slightly overcast sky.  Wednesday is our "off" day which means that Brea does not go to preschool on Wednesday and we have no after school activities.  I usually do laundry, clean and just play on Wednesdays but yesterday we played all day long!  Needless to say, I am doing laundry and cleaning today.  Oh well, it was worth it!

Brea is our cautious child.  She is aftaid of heights, doesn't try new things easily and is always hesitant to do anything that she thinks might lead to her falling or getting hurt.  She has always loved to go down the slide on my lap until yesterday when she announced that she is a big girl now and she can slide all by herself!  She hesitated a bit at the top of the slide but after just a few seconds she was on her way down!!!  She was so proud of herself and I bet she went down the slide at least 50 times yesterday!  The rock climbing wall is another swingset activity that she has never been interested in until yesterday.  I was helping Bailey with something and turned around to find Brea almost at the top of the wall!  She was so proud of herself when she made it all the way to the top and I was very proud of her to!!!  I know that this is no big deal to most four year olds but Brea has always been so tiny, frail and weak so to see her pulling herself up that wall was amazing!!!

Bailey is our little dare devil!  She watched Brea climb the wall ONCE and then she gave it a try.  She made it to the top with no problem and then STOOD on the top of the slide.  She stood there for a bit trying to decide if she was ready to go down and then all of a sudden she did it!  She went down the slide with no help at all!!!  She was so proud of herself!  She is a very strong little girl.  When she throws a temper tantrum we really have to hold onto her.  She throws herself backwards, kicks, screams, pinches, scratches and wiggles all at the same time.  If we weren't so busy trying to hang onto her we'd probably be laughing because it is a sight to see.  She cracked me up yesterday when she discovered a butterfly visiting our flowers in the backyard.  She chased it for at least 30 minutes and all the while she was making a noise as if she wanted to eat it!  When I asked her what she was doing she said "butterfly yummy".  Between Brea trying to catching lizards as pets and Bailey trying to eat butterflies I better not take my eyes off them!

When the big kids and Danny made it home we decided to carve pumpkins.  Bailey really didn't know what to think of that.  She refused to touch the gooey stuff and she was totally intrigued by the bowl full of seeds in the middle of the table.  We were almost done when she finally started picking up seeds and tossing them into the bowl.  Brea on the other hand really enjoyed all the goo!  Brea and Bailey decorated their pumpkins with plastic pieces...much safer and faster than carving!

Everyone slept well last night...even Simba who chased the girls all over the backyard yesterday.   Danny likes to tease me and call me a "home body" but honestly, there is no place I'd rather be.  A day like yesterday is as good as it gets if you ask me.  Swinging, climbing, carving and just being together as a family of six...priceless!
